Jake Sherwood: Live Painting at Cuore di Vetro

Before your painting begins a poem is sent to your phone, which you then read in your head while being painted. Lasting about 20 minutes the painting finished exactly when you finish reading.

Painting takes place inside!

About the Artist

After moving to Berlin in the winter of 2020 Jake Sherwood rented his first studio in Prenzlauerberg only to find himself unable to make art.

The poem, which took him over a year to write, allows the artist to form an unspoken connection with the people he paints while channelling what he struggled to connect to in the studio: his own emotions.

Recognition is key to the final work. Sherwood uses his experience of over 6 years as a portrait artist to capture both a physical likeness and the energetic aura of each person.

Although he resists being descried in a single style or medium, he uses a large range of materials including inks, pastels and paint as well as tape, make-up and fresh turmeric to achieve a sense of aliveness.
